A ranking has improved. Has it brought the right visitors—and are any of them enquiring? Measuring SEO means looking at those questions together. Search visibility, website visits and suitable enquiries each tell you a different part of the story.
A practical review separates search exposure, visits and business outcomes. It also records what changed on the website so that observations have context.
Understand the search metrics
Search Console reports clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position. An impression records an appearance under the report’s measurement rules; a click records a search interaction leading to your property. CTR relates clicks to impressions. Average position summarises positions across the included results rather than promising one fixed ranking. See Google’s Performance report documentation.
Read these measures together. An increase in impressions with little change in clicks is a different situation from fewer impressions and a higher CTR. The same headline number can hide different mixes of queries and pages.
Choose a consistent comparison
Write down the date range and filters used for each review. Compare similar periods, and consider holidays, promotions or seasonal demand where they affect your business. Keep country, device and search-type filters consistent when you want a like-for-like view.
For example, a seasonal supplier, comparing a busy ordering month with a quiet period could exaggerate an apparent SEO change. Add a note about the business calendar before drawing a conclusion.
Look at pages and queries together
Start with the pages supporting your main services. Check which searches bring visibility to each one and whether those searches fit its purpose. A page attracting unrelated interest may need a different response from a page reaching suitable customers who have not yet clicked.
Use your keyword map as a reference, while remaining open to useful queries you had not anticipated. The map is a planning tool, not a requirement that only one exact phrase can bring traffic.
Connect visits with enquiry quality
Review website analytics and your enquiry records alongside search data. Confirm that your form or conversion tracking actually works before interpreting a drop as a business trend. Keep notes when consent settings, tracking tools or form behaviour change.
Ask the sales team whether enquiries concern the right services, locations and budgets. Ten unsuitable messages and ten relevant requests are different business outcomes even if a dashboard counts the same number of submissions.
Separate delivered work from results
A backlink report records completed placements. It is not the same as a search performance review. SEOmini’s Backlink Plan includes a monthly backlink report; the SEO + Backlink Plan includes both a monthly SEO keyword report and a monthly backlink report. A full business analytics review should not be assumed from those deliverables alone.
End with one evidence-based next step
Summarise the observation, the likely explanations and what you will check next. Avoid attributing every movement to one new link or title edit. A useful review may lead to fixing a tracking issue, improving a service explanation or simply collecting more data before changing anything. Record the decision so the next month’s review can build on it.
